Preventive Management Consultation
Proactive prevention is the best approach to minimize the risks of workplace
crises. Many times, we see behaviors in the workplace that appear inappropriate.
Workers may say or do things that affect their work group and managers are
not sure how to handle the situation. Before taking action or deciding not
to take action, a preventive management consultation may be in order.First
Advantage can provide assistance to help prevent or cease behaviors that
are potentially damaging to the workplace. Preventive management consultation
is especially helpful during times of merger, reorganization or layoffs
as employees may act out in response to changes.
Grief Consultation Groups
From time to time, the workplace experiences the loss of a worker. Whether
the loss occurs suddenly or after an extended illness, employees need an
opportunity to mourn their loss. The grief consultation group provides an
organized forum for employees to discuss reactions, thoughts, and concerns
about the loss. The grief group will provide employees with information
about the grieving process, and educate employees on typical emotions and
responses related to grief.
Workplace Trauma Service
Regrettably the workplace is susceptible to an array of traumatic incidences.
Workplace violence, robberies, and natural disasters are a few examples.
First Advantage provides a structured group setting that educates employees
and facilitates discussion amongst workers regarding situations that affect
the workforce on a macro level. First Advantage Workplace Services will
assist employees by providing skills and resources for handling the trauma
and moving forward.
Often, companies are aware of potentially dangerous situations that could impact the work force. For example, a troubled worker makes threats against the company after being reprimanded or dismissed, or an employee is being harassed/threatened by an outsider. First Advantage offers expert consultation for supervisors and human resource professionals that will aid in avoiding legal pitfalls and preventing workplace trauma.
Individual On-Site Assistance
After exposure to a traumatic event, workers may need individualized attention
on the worksite. An employee assistance counselor can be available on-site
to assist in a variety of situations. For example, a group of employees
witness an accident involving a fellow worker on the production line. These
workers may need the opportunity to discuss their feelings about the accident.
Individually, an employee assistance counselor can provide specialized service
to review and normalize each worker's specific reactions to the accident.
This service is highly effective when used in conjunction with other services.
A group intervention is usually recommended, but may not be possible. In
these types of situations, individual on-site assistance is an appropriate
alternative.
Critical Incident Stress Management
(CISM)
Critical Incident Stress Management is a very specific type of intervention
geared to certain types of crises and is provided by counselors trained
in the CISM model. Typically situations that could necessitate a CISM may
be multi-deaths at the worksite or a death at the worksite following attempts
by co-workers to resuscitate the victim. This service allows employees to
understand and react to the crisis in a safe group environment.
