SAP Services
It is not always necessary to terminate an employee with a substance abuse problem. It is actually cost effective to offer an employee an opportunity for rehabilitation, rather than termination. First Advantage offers a variety of workplace services to support employee recovery in the workplace.
First Advantage Workplace Services offers a full menu of substance abuse services:
- DOT SAP Program - A basic model meeting the requirements of the Department of Transportation
- Back on Track - A more complete model including compliance monitoring for both DOT & Non-DOT employers
DOT SAP Program
The Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations require that all employees
of regulated companies who have a non-negative drug and/or alcohol test
be evaluated by a substance abuse professional (SAP). No employee may return
to a safety sensitive position without clearance by the SAP. Even terminated
employees must be referred to a SAP. It is the employer's responsibility
to provide these employees with the name, address, and telephone number
of qualified SAPs.
First Advantage has established a nationwide network of SAP's who can be accessed by client company employees through a toll-free 800 number. All employees who call SAP Services will have an initial telephone intake and be scheduled for a face-to-face meeting with a local SAP, for a re-assessment interview once documentation is received that the employee has complied with the SAP's recommendations. Employers will also be provided with a follow up testing schedule. This program is operated in accordance with the DOT regulations.
First Advantage SAP Services provides employers with a convenient way to meet all DOT SAP requirements while maintaining consistency on a national level.
Back on Track Program
First Advantage can provide a comprehensive return to work program for employers
that allow employees who have non-negative tests an opportunity to rehabilitate
and keep their job. The return to work process is designed to help employees
remain drug and alcohol free once they have returned to the workplace.
The Back on Track program begins with an employee assessment by a First Advantage local substance abuse professional and then monitors the employee's progress throughout treatment and back to the workplace. A key feature of this program is case management and compliance monitoring. Compliance with the requirements stipulated by the return to work letter can be monitored by First Advantage through drug and alcohol testing and monitoring attendance of the aftercare requirements. If an employee fails to comply with the attendance requirements or misses a random drug test, the employer is notified immediately that the employee has failed to comply with the return to work agreement.
It has been the experience of First Advantage that this type of program increases the success rate of employees remaining clean and sober following their return to the workplace.
