Management Resources : The Troubled Employee
One of our roles is to help you manage your troubled employees, those that are dealing with some type of personal issue that affects their workplace performance. These employees typically account for 10-15% of your workforce. In general, troubled employees will show increases in:
- Absenteeism
- Tardiness
- Accidents
While at the same time, they show decreases in:
- Efficiency
- Quality of work
- Productivity
The Troubled Employee & the EAP
First Advantage would like to help you identify these employees earlier,
before the situation escalates. We can show you what to do once you have
identified the employee and help you decide if a referral to the EAP is
appropriate. If a referral to the EAP is made, we will assess the employee
and make recommendations regarding an appropriate action plan to address
the underlying issues the employee is dealing with.
Remember, it is not your job to diagnosis the problem or to provide "counseling" to the employee - it's your job to identify deteriorating workplace performance, to provide the employee with resources they can access for help and to continue managing the employees workplace performance.
Supervisory Manual
First Advantage EAP offers a supervisory manual to supplement the Supervisory
Training. This manual describes the services provided by the EAP and gives
a detailed, step-by-step explanation of how to make a supervisory referral.
The referred individual's employment is not dependent on if s/he accessed
the program.
Some companies have a policy and program in place that allows for mandatory referrals, frequently called a "last chance agreement." When a supervisor makes a mandatory referral, the employee may be subject to termination if they do not contact the EAP and follow the EAP recommendations.
Use this supervisory manual if your company policy supports mandatory referrals. Otherwise, use this manual
