Contractors, consultants, freelancers, seasonal workers, temps – our workplaces wouldn't be the same without them. Numerous studies have shown the huge part these workers play in the global workforce, which is only predicted to grow in the coming years. While employers have been quick realize the benefits contingent workers can bring, many have been slow to recognize the risks. According to the Office for National Statistics, around 6 percent (just under 1.7 million) of the U.K. labor market is made-up of temporary workers, compared with 8 percent in the U.S., according to the Government Accountability Office as reported by Forbes.

Providers Take Note: Trust is a Must in the Sharing Economy

Earlier this year my company, First Advantage, conducted an online survey of 800 U.S. employed adults to get their sentiments about the sharing economy. Initially we wanted to find out who has heard of this space and used sharing economy services. From our research, 64 percent of survey respondents said they have heard of sharing economy services and 39 percent said they have used this type of service. Not surprisingly, the majority of the people who use this type of service tend to be in the younger demographic between 18-44 years of age, which tends to be a mix of Millennials and Gen Xers.
